DHS Expands Collection of Biometrics for Visitors
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is expanding the categories of non-U.S. citizens required to provide digital fingerprints and a photograph upon entry to the United States through the US‑VISIT program.

US‑VISIT records biographic and biometric information to conduct security checks and verify the identities of international visitors to the United States. Expanding enrollment in US‑VISIT is a positive step forward in a process designed to further improve public safety and national security while ensuring the integrity of the immigration system.

DHS Calls For More Secure Employment Eligibility Checks
Beginning in February, employers in the United States will not be allowed to use expired documents to verify workers' employment eligibility.

The interim rule, published in the Federal Register by DHS, aims to streamline the employment eligibility verification process and crack down on fraud. As of Feb. 2, 2009, expired U.S. passports or state-issued driver's licenses and other outdated identification cards will no longer qualify as valid documentation for Form I-9. Social Security cards will not be affected by the change because they do not expire.
