Security In
Tow For Possibly Biggest Inauguration Day Ever
Law enforcement officials bracing for the largest
crowds in inaugural history are preparing far-reaching security --
thousands of video cameras, sharpshooters, air patrols -- to safeguard
President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in.
People attending the ceremony and parade on Jan. 20 can expect to be
searched by machines, security personnel or both. Precautions will range
from the routine -- magnetometers like those used at airports -- to
countersnipers, undercover officers, bomb sniffing dogs and air patrols.

Study Finds
Preparedness Among Retailers As Holidays Approach
Nearly one-third of retailers polled in a survey cited
that they experience a 76 to 100 percent turnover of store employees
annually. This turnover, along with increasing external threats and
evolving data security regulation, has led many retailers to increase
their focus on cyber risk management. However, 59 percent of those
polled do not have a cyber liability insurance policy in place at
present. Instead, they have chosen to allocate those resources to loss
prevention to thwart potential data breaches.
Aon Corp.‘s survey of risk managers at 25 of the nation's leading
retailers analyzed risk mitigation practices related to enterprise risk
as well as supply chain, network/cyber, environmental, directors and
officers, employment practices and business interruption liability,
among others.

Cargo Theft A
Big Issue With Big Dollars
Cargo theft is a multi-billion dollar problem for
shippers and transportation carriers alike -- and it’s on the rise
this year.
According to Fleet Owner, part of the problem is that cargo theft
remains widely under-reported. According to the FBI, cargo theft is
estimated to cost the U.S. $15 billion to $30 billion a year, though the
true measure may be even higher, since some businesses are reluctant to
report thefts out of concern for their reputations or insurance
premiums. That reluctance is understandable, since it is estimated that
up to 80 percent of cargo thefts may be inside jobs, and reporting such
losses can lead to increased insurance costs.

New York Police
Versus U.S. In Fight Against Surveillance
An effort by the New York Police Department to get
broader latitude to eavesdrop on terrorism suspects has run into sharp
resistance from the Justice Department in a bitter struggle that has
left the police commissioner and the attorney general accusing each
other of putting the public at risk.
According to The New York Times, the Police Department, with the largest
municipal counterterrorism operation in the country, wants the Justice
Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to loosen their
approach to the federal law that governs electronic surveillance.

Sony. Megapixel cameras that aren’t afraid of the dark.
Some megapixel cameras are remarkably scared of the dark. Because their
high resolution comes at the cost of poor low light performance. To
compensate, some rely on slow shutter speeds—which produce severe
motion blur. Sony did better, carefully balancing megapixel resolution
with the super sensitivity of our ExwavePRO and Light Funneling.
Discover Sony megapixel cameras. Because crime never sleeps.
