Toll announces disposal of Virgin Blue stake

Virgin Blue shares climbed yesterday after majority shareholder Toll Holdings, an Australian logistics company, announced its long-awaited disposal of its 62.7% majority stake in Virgin Blue Holdings. [MORE]





Lufthansa forced to prepare for falling demand, unsettled employees

Lufthansa Chairman and CEO Wolfgang Mayrhuber told ATWOnline at last week's Star Alliance meeting in Cairo that "we face heavy headwinds and will have a very close look at capacity for the coming winter schedule," with several options for reductions already available should demand weaken. [MORE]


Midwest to cut 40% of workforce

Midwest Airlines and its Skyway subsidiary will reduce the workforce by 40%, equal to approximately 1,200 employees, as a result of its decision to remove its MD-80s from service this fall and in anticipation of "other schedule adjustments to be announced," it said yesterday. [MORE]
