USCM report: Cities to remain in recession until next year
Federal assistance is now necessary to prevent economic conditions in the nation's major cities from deteriorating further, according to a report from the Washington-based U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM). Sixty percent of 158 mayors surveyed in 41 states and Puerto Rico say a targeted program of fiscal assistance is needed to help prevent further drastic budget cuts that translate into losses of personnel and reductions in public services. AASHTO report lists 50 model transportation projects
From the seven North Carolina bridges replaced in 45 days to the Utah highway that reduced commuters’ drive time from 42 to 16 minutes, a new report released by the Washington-based American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) highlights 50 projects nationwide that showcase smart transportation solutions by state transportation departments. AASHTO officials say the projects emphasize the need for state and local governments to make smart decisions when implementing similar projects in their areas. Read the entire article here.

Governments, agencies work to save Puget Sound

EPA seeks comments on stormwater rule survey
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking comments on a proposed regulation to help strengthen stormwater regulations and reduce stormwater discharges from newly developed and redeveloped sites.
