Contracts and Awards Announcements
Los Angeles has signed a 15-year, $88.6-million contract with Minneapolis-based Honeywell Process Solutions to replace the wastewater system’s controls with technology that will allow the city to link its four main treatment plants with pumping stations and collection facilities that are scattered throughout more than 500 square miles of the city’s service area. The project is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2012 and will take approximately seven years to complete. The company will provide support services for eight years after completion.

Leesburg, Fla., has contracted with Fairfield, Conn.-based GE to provide its Grid IQ: Solutions as a Service. The service will include an advanced metering infrastructure network; a meter data management system; and a demand response optimization system, which will allow the city to better manage its electricity loads. The company will manage and maintain the applications for the city at its data center, and Leesburg will continue to own the data and manage its operations. The city will begin deploying the first phase of technology during spring 2012, with 24,000 customers receiving some of the new services in the latter part of 2012. The entire project is expected to be completed in spring 2013.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security and the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) have contracted with Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola Solutions to begin implementing the first phase of a statewide radio system that will be interoperable with the bordering states of Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. It also will offer safety enhancements for state troopers, such as emergency man-down notification and global positioning satellite (GPS) capabilities, along with improved coverage.
