U.S. Machine Tool Sales Up 9.2% in July
Sales of U.S. machine tools and components rose to $149.51 million in July, according to the monthly manufacturing technology report compiled by AMTDA, the American Machine Tool Distributors’ Association, and AMT - The Association For Manufacturing Technology. While the rise over June consumption is significant, and the third consecutive month for an increase, the total represents a -55.3% decrease from the July 2008 total. Year-to-date manufacturing technology sales is $910.42 million, -68.3% versus the same period of 2008. Read the full story here


2009 Global Stainless Output Down, but Recovering
Worldwide stainless steel output increased significantly in the second quarter of 2009, though the production totals are down from the 2008 pace. Production of 400 series grades is off target, according the International Stainless Steel Forum, due to a decline in global automotive output. Read the full story here


Metal Service Centers Still Cutting Inventory
August shipments of steel and aluminum from North America’s metals service centers increased slightly from July levels, according to the Metals Service Center Institute. However, the centers continued to sell from inventory, which has been their pattern for over a year. Read the full story here
