Control architecture breaks the G-code barrier
Siemens Drive Technologies is targeting job-shop operations with its new control architecture, Sinumerik 828D, that combines CNC, PLC, and axis control for six CNC measurement circuits, and presents these in one operator panel. Siemens states that Sinumerik 828D offers users “intelligent kinematic transformations, an efficient tool management system and 80-bit floating point nano precision.” Read the full story here


Plex Online adds "open database connectivity"
ERP software supplier Plex Systems Inc. reports that its “software-as-a-service” application now supports open database connectivity (ODBC) for simplified data access — making it compatible with a range of widely used, standard reporting tools. Read the full story here


Dassault Systemes to buy IBM PLM for $600 Million
International Business Machines agreed to sell its Product Lifecycle Management software business to Dassault Systemes for $600 million. Dassault is known as a developer and supplier of modeling and simulations software, so the sale will enhance its portfolio, though two companies indicated they would retain an alliance by which Dassault will market IBM services and infrastructure software.
