Takeover Saves Machine-Shop Group
Excalibur Machine Co. has been acquired by Esmark Industrial Group for $3.5 million. Esmark Industrial is a new subsidiary of Esmark Inc., a private investment group. Excalibur Machine is a precision machining and fabricating organization that supplies parts, sub-assemblies and material-handling equipment to OEMs in transportation, material-handling, heavy construction and power generation markets. Oil/Gas Component Suppliers File New Trade Complaint
Four domestic manufacturers of steel drill pipe joined the United Steelworkers union to file a trade complaint against imports of steel drill pipe from China. News of the filing followed quickly a decision by the U.S. International Trade Commission that domestic producers of steel oil-country tubular goods have been hurt by Chinese exports of those products. That ruling is expected to result in countervailing duties up to 16% on Chinese products. Read the full story here

Siemens PLM Software and Siemens Drive Technologies aims to show that more linkage between product lifecycle software and production systems/ equipment improves design and makes machining more productive. Siemens PLM’s Virtual Machine technology is a machine tool on a PC, with virtual controller functions and machine tool simulation, and it’s expected to maximize productivity by eliminating the need to use real machines for nonproduction tasks, e.g., prototyping.
