Romi Targets Hardinge with $92-Million Offer
Industrias Romi S.A. made an unsolicited, $92-million takeover bid for rival machine-tool builder Hardinge Inc. According to Romi, Hardinge “has refused to enter into any meaningful dialogue to explore the merits and potential terms of a transaction.” Hardinge confirmed it has received the proposal and noted that its directors and advisers are evaluating it before responding. Citation Corp. and Grede LLC have completed a merger of their holdings, establishing a new company, Grede Holdings LLC. headed by Citation Corp. president chief executive Doug Grimm. Multiple Programming Enhancements in GibbsCAM 2010
For 5-axis machining, the new version of GibbsCAM offers several programming improvements, including: more spiral machining options; new gouge-check projection options; a new lead in/lead out “flip” option; a new axial shift damp option for trimming applications; and support for countersink and keyway cutters. Engraving Software Adapts to CNC Machinery
PRO 3 CAD/CAM from 2L inc. is available now, to prepare G-code programs for producing 2D data-matrix barcodes on 3- or 4-axis CNC milling machines or multi axis lathes. The developer says it allows users to conduct Direct Part Marking using standard 2L engraving tools with installed CNC equipment. Read the full story here


GF AgieCharmilles, Metalcam in WireEDM CAM Software Partnership
Wire EDM machine specialist GF AgieCharmilles entered into a partenership with Metalcam that will see it include the latter’s new AC CAM Easy software on every machine in its new CUT 20P/30P series of wire-cutting EDM. The new program, AC CAM Easy, was designed specifically for GF AgieCharmilles’ CUT 20P and 30P machines — though based on Metalcam’s flagship product, Fikus Visualcam for wire EDM, with which it is fully compatible (as also with Fikus Fastwire and AC Geo files.)
