Come home to Graph Expo
Graph Expo is more than a trade show. For many people, it’s like a homecoming game — a chance to revisit their former stomping grounds, meet old pals and see what’s new.
There’s always a great turnout from the Chicago printing crowd. I’ve rubbed elbows with Rich DiPietro and the CrossTech crew, the Gustafson family at the JohnsByrne Co., Pete Douglas at Lake County Press (LCP), Ross Johnson of Johnson Printers, Palmer Printing’s Ed Rossini, Bill Barta at Rider Dickerson, Jack Rickard of Rickard Bindery, Matt Wagner of the Wagner Companies, and many other local luminaries including AMERICAN PRINTER columnist Steve Johnson and PII’s Polly Jensen.

Graph Expo, takes place Oct. 26-29, 2008, in Chicago. See www.gasc.org. Hope to see you there!

A great green collaboration
We are looking forward to presenting our first Environmental Excellence Awards on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Graph Expo. Stop by AMERICAN PRINTER’s booth (3890) for your free invitation.

Teaming with Premier sponsors Heidelberg and Kodak, AMERICAN PRINTER, in conjunction with the National Assn. for Printing Leadership (NAPL), created the awards to recognize commercial printers who are leading the industry in environmentally conscious manufacturing. Gold level sponsors include Adobe, Agfa, Air Motion Systems (AMS), HP, Mohawk Fine Papers and Presstek.

Advising customers on being greener is part of EarthColor’s (Parsippany, NJ) comprehensive environmental approach. “We’ve worked very closely with our clients to educate them on how to produce green printed communications that have a positive environmental impact and strong socially responsibility message,” says David Podmayersky, sustainability director. “Working with American Express on its 2007/2008 Corporate Citizenship Report was a great collaboration at all levels.”

EarthColor was among the Gold Award winner for Best Environmentally Produced Product. The AMEX report was printed on FSC-certified Mohawk Options paper, containing 100% post-consumer waste fiber and manufactured entirely with Green-e certified renewable, non-polluting, wind-generated electricity. The paper is process chlorine-free, with certification to FSC and Green Seal standards. EarthColor also won a Silver Environmental Excellence Award. CGS adds ORIS Certified Monitor to suite
CGS Publishing Technologies Intl. (Minneapolis) introduces ORIS Certified Monitor, the newest addition to Certified Suite, which includes ORIS Certified Proof and ORIS Certified Press. The Certified Suite family of products verifies proofs, press sheets and now monitors are in compliance with industry color standards such as GRACoL and SWOP.

One of the key features of the ORIS Certified Suite is the summary label, which can be affixed to proof and press sheets. The label clearly communicates how the proof, press sheet and monitor combination used perform vs. the standards employed. See www.cgs-oris.com.
