Valuable color reference is yours for the asking
Jean Bourges, president and CEO of Bourges Color Intl. passed away in 2008. Bourges created a patented color value classification system and was a long-time crusader for color standardization.

In 1997, Bourges wrote “Color Bytes: Blending the Art and Science of Color.” Wayne Perry, chief estimator at MacDonald and Evans (Braintree, MA), worked with Bourges on her book and reports that Bourges’ sons have 3,500 copies of this color reference book.

“As much as they would like the books used for educational purposes as Jean always intended, the costs of continuing storage is impractical,” says Perry. “But they are trying to distribute them to anyone who is interested.”

Copies of “Color Bytes” are free for the asking. You will, however, have to pay shipping costs. Please contact Richard Bourges for more information. Indicate the quantity of books you would like as well as your shipping address. Send your inquiry to rbourges@srinternational.com.

PRINT 09: Be there!
PRINT 09 will take place Sept. 11-16 in Chicago. “Historically PRINT has been significantly larger than GraphExpo, with more exhibitors and larger exhibit spaces,” notes AP columnist and printing company executive Steve Johnson.” Networking with your peers is an excellent reason to attend any event. Allow time for it. Be sure to sign up for some of the seminars, where you are more likely to meet and interact with new acquaintances who share your business concerns and interests. This is golden opportunity to learn how your peers in other parts of the country and the world are handling this year’s economic challenges.” See www.print09.com.

Good afternoon, moon
I live in LaGrange, IL. Community activities include an annual pet parade, craft fair and so on. In Orange County, CA, they do things a bit differently. Laguna Niguel citizens recently celebrated the 30th annual mooning of an Amtrak train.

According to one news report: “For 30 years ‘Mooners’ have congregated in front of the chain link fence adjacent to the train tracks, giving passengers a ‘California Hello.’ This all day event is held across the street from the landmark ‘Mugs Away Saloon’ which has two live bands playing throughout the day.”

Thanks to Amtrak patron Frank Romano for passsing along this information. At press time he would neither confirm nor deny his involvement.
