Chartering the
suburbs
Last week, we asked readers what they thought about charter
schools becoming more prevalent in suburban areas that might not have a
need for them as great as urban areas. Here is some of your feedback:
- "As long as charter schools meet the same standards of
accountability and transparency, then they should take their rightful
place as comparable to and in many cases superior to public schools,"
says one reader.

This week, A new law in Texas moves
away from "zero-tolerance" school discipline policies and is telling
school officials to use more discretion in considering mitigating
factors. Do you think schools should continue to impose zero-tolerance
discipline?
A. Yes. As long as school discipline
remains a problem, zero-tolerance policies send a clear message to
students about what behavior is out of bounds.
B. No. Administrators should be able to
adjust discipline measures to reflect the specific nature of an
incident and the track record of those involved.
C. Other.
What do you think?
