Limiting
charters
Last week, we asked about whether districts or states
should impose limits on the numbers of charter schools. Here is some of
your feedback:
- "It probably will be politically unpopular to oppose additional
charter school enrollments," says an administrator from Texas. "But,
what is necessary is an accounting from those charters that ensures that
students are receiving a quality education."

This week, the decision in Hawaii to save
money by canceling public school classes on 17 Fridays this school
year has drawn much criticism. Do you think Hawaii officials were
justified in shortening the school year?
A. Yes. When reduced funding leads
directly to reduced instructional time, the public will be more likely
to address the funding problems that schools are facing.
B. No. Officials should explore all other
options for budget cuts before reducing students' instructional
time.
C. Other.
