Feedback
|
Court
decisions
Last week, we asked what readers thought of the recent Supreme
Court ruling that could force public schools to pay more for
private schooling of special-education students. Here is some of your
feedback:
- "...The schools are taking the easy way out to save costs and
forcing special needs (students) into private schools," says one reader.
"Public schools should pay the costs of this."

This week, in another Supreme Court decision, justices have
ruled that an Arizona middle school went too far when it strip-searched
a 13-year-old girl who officials believed was hiding ibuprofen
tablets. Do you agree with the court that the search violated the girl's
rights?
A. Yes. School officials need to use
such intrusive measures selectively and be more sensitive to the privacy
of students.
B. No. Administrators should have the right
to take whatever steps are necessary to make sure the school environment
is safe.
C. Other.

National showcase to spotlight
innovations for healthful school environments
Healthy Schools Campaign is launching a nationwide search for
innovative products and services that will help create more healthful
school environments. The search focuses on two areas: the environmental
impact of a school, and the way a school supports healthful eating and
physical activity for students. Companies are invited to share
innovations that focus on school wellness or the environment. A judging
panel will select the most creative innovations, which will be showcased
in HSC's newsletter, magazine and website.
