Charter
rules
Last week, we asked what readers thought about standardizing
the rules across the nation for establishing and operating charter
schools. Here is some of your feedback:
- "I am of the opinion that some sort of vetting process, training
process, or certification process needs to exist for charter schools,"
says one reader. "I say this because the charters I visited with seemed,
generally, less organized than the comparable public school
districts."

This week will
mark 10 years since 12 Texas A&M students were killed when a
60-foot-tall stack of logs amassed for the school's traditional bonfire
collapsed. The bonfire tradition continues at a site miles from
campus, but Texas Gov. Rick Perry was quoted recently that the tradition
may return to the campus. Do you think the bonfire should take place on
the Texas A&M campus in College Station?
A. Yes. With proper precautions and
improved safety, Texas A&M could return the tradition to its campus.
B. No. The dangers inherent in the bonfire
and the memories of the tragedy outweigh the value of bringing the
tradition back to campus.
C. Other.
