EEF Daily would like to wish a Happy Veterans Day to those who have served our nation to protect our freedom. I know it comes with great sacrifice to step into the big shoes of a soldier, and I want to take this opportunity today to show my appreciation. My grandpa, Alvin Nolz, served in the Army. He enlisted when he was 20 years old, and from 1951-1953, he helped America in the Korean War by working as a cook in the Service in both Japan and Korea.

Purebred cattle entries for the Sioux Empire Farm Show Jan. 26-30 must be in the farm show office by Nov. 16. The Angus and Simmental breeds will show and sell Jan. 27; Hereford, Limousin, Red Angus and Charolais will show and sell Jan. 28; Maine-Anjou will show and sell Jan. 29.

Protecting Both Livestock and Wildlife From Disease

The first lab tests confirming Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) in the state of Montana have been received, according to Neil Anderson, supervisor of Montana's Wildlife Lab. While EHD more commonly affects wildlife, cattle may show mild symptoms. EHD does not usually cause fatalities in domestic livestock but it may reduce productivity.

Texas Cattle Industry Groups Meet to Discuss Tick Fever Prevention

Representatives from Texas’ cattle industry recently discussed future research and educational partnerships related to fever ticks at a summit hosted by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. The fever tick is a major concern to the livestock and wildlife industry, said Dr. Tom Hairgrove, livestock systems program coordinator with AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. It can carry and transmit Babesia, a blood parasite that can kill adult cattle. Other hosts for the fever tick are horses, deer, elk and other deer species.
