It seems like articles like this one are getting to be a
dime a dozen these days. Forbes Magazine recently published an article
titled, “Drop That Burger,” written by Matthew Herper. The article
is about a Stanford University biochemist, Patrick Brown, who is tired
of studying DNA molecules in his lab and is ready to tackle the problems
in animal agriculture. His solution: “Eliminate animal farming on
planet Earth.” Food producers, get ready. This man has found his
target, and it is you.

With a virtually constant flow of misinformation in
mainstream media of late, it’s easy to get frustrated when you (beef
producers, dairy farmers and importers) are working the land and cattle
in environmentally sound and caring ways. Of particular concern is the
fact that so many of the attacks on our industry are based on unfounded
information and emotional pleas rather than facts or science. So in
addition to all the positive research, messages and tools your checkoff
investment provides, WE NEED YOUR VOICES as producers and importers to
tell your story

some 60 mil. people were tending crops, livestock, and other of the
myriad of enterprises, events, crop failures, and disasters in the
virtual world of FarmVille. From the dawn of the computer age, games
have been a staple of the geeks who make computers run. In the process a
lot of geeks founded software companies to make money off the games.

Finally some reprieve. October proved friendly to the fed
market which showed signs of life during the month. Halloween finished
the month out on an especially positive note. Cattle buyers bid
generously; fed trade was solidly $2-2.50 higher than the previous week.
The market finished the month at $87-8 - a far cry from just 30 days ago
when cattle feeders saw trade encroaching $80. October's finish and
November's open places the market back at levels not seen since April.
Moreover, weekly beef tonnage has exceeded last year's mark five times
in the past six weeks.
