While MPEG-4 AVC is key to Mobile ATSC, without significant progress in MPEG-2 encoding in the past few years, broadcasters wouldn’t have the chance to wring out additional bits from their HD channels to make room for the new on-the-go service, says Mark Aitken, director of advanced technology for Sinclair Broadcast Group.
