Crisis" Germany's Phrase of the Year
The Society for the German Language picked
"finanzkrise" (financial crisis) as its phrase of the year. "It has been
at the center of the public's concerns more than any other term this
year" and "sums up the dramatic developments in the banking, real
estate, and financial sectors," according to the society.

Couple
Receives Legal Documents on Facebook
A lawyer in Australia used the social networking site
Facebook to inform a couple that they had lost their home after
defaulting on a loan. Mark McCormack, a lawyer for the lender the couple
borrowed from, was granted permission from the Australian Capital
Territory Supreme Court to serve the legally binding documents after
other attempts to reach the couple failed. McCormack said, "It's
somewhat novel, however we do see it as a valid method of bringing the
matter to the attention of the defendant."
