released a report ranking what the firm sees as the top 10 risks for
global business in the coming year. This year's top 10, compiled in
collaboration with Oxford Analytica and based on interviews with more
than 100 analysts, contains a few surprises.

The private equity industry has been chugging along
fitfully these last eighteen months, and it may be as long again until
it's back to full throttle, according to a survey by the Economist
Intelligence Unit of more than 200 senior execs at PE firms in North
America and Europe.

Garlic
Salt Keeps Roads Safe
Driving through Ankeny, Iowa, this winter might make
you hungry. The city is using garlic salt donated by a spice producer
headquartered in the town to melt snow and ice on the roads. It works
well when mixed with regular road salt, according to Public Works
Administrator Al Olson, although one worker reported, "It makes you feel
like ordering a steak and a baked potato."

Santa Has to Obey Parking Laws
A New York City traffic agent gave Santa Claus a
ticket for double parking while he was delivering children's Christmas
presents. Santa (aka Chip Cafiero) said, "The kids started crying:
'That's Santa's car! That's Santa's car!' But this grinch just went
ahead and fined me anyways."
