Man Tells Year's Best Lie
A yarn about a sneaky baby and his diapers is the 2008 Champion Lie, according to the Burlington Liars Club. Winner Garth Seehawer said, "A good lie isn't just a tall tale or exaggerating. You have to have something fun, not believable but impossibly true."

Children Try to Elope to Africa
Two children, aged six and seven, eloped from Hanover, Germany, on New Year's Eve with the intention of marrying in Africa. They only made it as far as the local train station where police convinced the couple and the girl's younger sister that it would be hard to get to Africa without money and plane tickets. Police spokesperson Holger Jureczko said the kids are "very much in love and decided to get married in Africa where it is warm, taking with them as a witness Anna-Lena's little sister, aged five."
