Just shy of the two-year anniversary of Cemex’s $16 billion
acquisition of Australia’s Rinker Group, the Mexican building
materials giant has agreed to sell its entire Australian operations to
Swiss-owned Holcim Group for about $1.64 billion. The assets divested

products plants. The sale also includes Cemex’s 25 percent stake in
the four-plant, one-grinding-mill Cement Australia, with an annual
production of 5.1 million metric tons. Holcim had previously owned a 50
percent share of Cement Australia.

PCA: Will EPA regs foster ‘OPEC’ factor
for domestic cement consumers?
Sources: Portland Cement Association; U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency
A proposed hazardous air pollutant regulation for the cement
industry undermines the balance between environmental protection and
economic viability, and has the potential to force U.S. concrete
producers to turn to foreign powder sources, according to statements PCA
is issuing at EPA hearings June 16-18 in Los Angeles, Dallas, and
Arlington, Va. The hearings address amendments to the national hazardous
air pollutant emissions standard covering mercury, total hydrocarbons,
hydrochloric acid and particulate matter. If adopted, PCA contends, they
would undermine the domestic cement industry’s stability and endanger
thousands of jobs.

Aggregate
Diverters
Vortex Valves North America
Handle sand, gravel, whole grains, coal, and other
difficult-to-convey materials straight line aggregate diverters. Built
with abrasion-resistant wear liners and a removable access door to allow
for easier inspection or maintenance, the straight line aggregate
diverters are built to avoid excessive wear typically associated with
traditional “bucket” diverters.
Gravity-flow aggregate diverters, also called “K” style diverters,
handle heavy-duty, abrasive materials efficiently. While ordinary
diverters do not provide a positive seal across the closed
chute--allowing material to pass through gap between the bucket and
chute--these units use durable rubber bucket seals to provide a positive
material shutoff at the leading edge of the bucket. These rubber seals
avoid abrasion, as the diverter’s inlet is designed to divert flow
away from these seals. These diverters feature a removable access panel
to allow for access to the bucket, inlet, and special liners. The
complete bucket and seal can also be removed and replaced through the
side panel, minimizing downtime.
Standard gate construction allows for 180 degrees F service and
modifications for temperatures as high as 600 degrees F. The gravity
flow conveying can be applied to diverter material flow from one source
to two destinations and come with a selection of round or square inlets
or outlets.
