NEW YORK -- Town Sports International Holdings Inc. (TSI),
New York, had a tough third quarter with lower revenue and memberships
than in third quarter 2008.

VANCOUVER, WA -- Nautilus Inc. notified its customers
recently that it would not take new orders for commercial equipment past
Oct. 30. All outstanding orders will be shipped by Dec. 31, according to
a letter sent to customers. The notice essentially dates Nautilus’
previously announced exit from the commercial fitness equipment business
at the end of the year.

lawsuit that involves the company’s system of paying group exercise
instructors.

Clubs, Washington, DC, recently donated $20,000 worth of fitness
equipment to Woodbridge Middle School in Woodbridge, VA. The donation is
part of Sport & Health’s commitment to help decrease childhood obesity
throughout the Washington, DC, region. During the past several years,
the club company has donated equipment to eight schools.
The International Health, Racquet &
Sportsclub Association, (IHRSA) partnered with JobTarget to announce
the launch of a new fitness industry career site, www.healthclubs.com/jobs,
which replaces ActiveCareers.com. Most job-seeker services are free. For
employers, a single job posting costs $99 for IHRSA-member companies and
$149 for nonmembers. The site’s bank of more than 3,000 resumes allows
employers to directly contact qualified, industry-specific
job-seekers.
BodyScapes Fitness
in Brookline, MA, and Southborough, MA, celebrated Breast Cancer
Awareness Month in October by donating $1 for every mile logged on the
clubs’ new pink Cybex 750T treadmill to raise money for The Ellie Fund, which improves the
health and welfare of women and families undergoing breast cancer
treatment in Massachusetts. BodyScapes Fitness will continue supporting
The Ellie Fund by donating 5 cents for every mile logged on the pink
treadmill the rest of the year.

Motionsoft is
one of three finalists in the Services and Other category for the 2009
Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) Deal of the Year Awards. The
nomination recognizes Motionsoft’s
acquisition of Conexion. The winner will be announced Wednesday at a
ceremony at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore.
Fitness Anywhere Inc.
received the No. 5 ranking in the San Francisco Business Times’
annual listing of the Top 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies. The
publication surveyed more than 2,000 local companies to create the list.
To qualify, each company must be headquartered in the Bay Area, be
privately held between 2006 and 2008, and have revenues of more than
$200,000 in fiscal year 2006. Companies were ranked on percentage of
revenue growth from 2006 to 2008.
Life Fitness was part of a
joint effort to create a state-of-the-art fitness room and athletic
training facility at North Chicago High School. The company worked in
conjunction with the Chicago
Bears and the United Way of Lake
County as part of the Bears/United Way Hometown Huddle project. The
new facilities will support the school’s commitment to use exercise as
its method for helping to improve student health and lower its absentee
rate.
The American Council on
Exercise (ACE) has selected Peaksware LLC to provide
all ACE-certified professionals with TrainingPeaks Professional Edition
software, a program for improved client management, exercise program
planning featuring ACE’s Exercise Library, and a publishing platform
for exercise videos, custom workouts, training plans and meal plans.
Peaksware will provide classes in the form of online webinars.
The Sporting Goods Manufacturers
Association (SGMA) is preparing for a TV/radio satellite media tour,
“Getting Fit and Staying Fit in the New Year,” which will take place
on Jan. 6, 2010, at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando. The tour
involves SGMA partnering with six or seven companies to showcase their
fitness and exercise products to TV viewers and radio listeners. The
SGMA is looking for companies who want to participate in the event. The
cost to participate is $8,000. The money goes to defray the satellite
costs of the event. Companies can contact SGMA industry spokesman Mike
