In Brief...
Two fitness centers in La Crosse, WI, Valley View Fitness and
Fitness Express, will close on July 31, owner Charley Swayne says.
Swayne, who declined to say why his two centers were closing when asked
by the La Crosse Tribune, says about 60 employees will be laid
off. He adds that membership agreements have been purchased by La
Crosse/Onalaska Fitness.
DAC, a regional fitness management company, and Fitness 24 are
merging to become DAC 24. The combined company will have 10 fitness
center locations in the Memphis, TN, area, the Memphis Business
Journal reported. After the merger, future DAC 24 members can
purchase an all-access membership, allowing them to use any DAC 24
location across the Tennessee area, according to the report.
Inside
Manufacturers...
Founded in 1977 by Paul Kuo, SportsArt Fitness is
celebrating its 30th anniversary. In November, the company will
celebrate with a world conference at its new Zhuhai, China, facility.
Distributors from more than 70 countries, along with company personnel
from around the world, will share ideas for future innovations.
Recently, the company introduced its Xtreme Series cardio products,
which includes three treadmills featuring the ECO-Powr™ drive
system that delivers energy savings of up to 32 percent.
Cybex International
Inc. has opened a $15 million, 340,000-square-foot, eco-friendly
manufacturing facility in Owatonna, MN. The new facility is expected to
serve projected growth and to generate significant manufacturing
efficiencies over time, according to a company release. The facility is
70 percent larger than the previous plant, which was one mile away. The
building is designed to be environmentally sound and incorporates
natural lighting and water recycling systems that provide cost-savings
on maintenance and efficient energy consumption while reducing
greenhouse gases and mercury pollution. The 36-acre area surrounding the
facility will be seeded for the use of wildlife and natural foliage.
