ST. PAUL, MN -- The city of St. Paul, MN, is taking steps to change
its ordinance that prohibits health clubs, such as 24-hour key-card
franchises Anytime Fitness and Snap Fitness, from operating
unsupervised, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Read the

Kicks Off America On the Move Week
WASHINGTON, DC -- America On the Move Week with the YMCA begins
today and lasts through Sept. 27. The initiative, created by the YMCA of
the USA, is an effort to help families move more, eat more healthfully
and build stronger family relationships. The campaign's goal is to reach
10 billion steps across the country during the week.
Activities counted as steps can include actual steps taken during the
week as well as equivalents for all other forms of physical activity,
such as swimming, biking, dancing and other group or family activities
that promote well-being. Participants, including individuals, can begin
to track their steps with an America on the Move Quick Start Guide,
complete with a tracking form and step conversions for common exercises

Group
Training Gains Steam on Personal Training
SAN DIEGO -- One-on-one personal training is still the most
frequently offered type of training, but group training is growing,
according to the IDEA Personal Training Programs & Equipment Survey of
926 personal trainers conducted by the IDEA Health & Fitness
Association. Ninety-nine percent of respondents offer one-on-one
personal training, and 84 percent of respondents offer group training.

Sells ClubCom
WOODINVILLE, WA -- Precor has sold ClubCom to Zoom Media &
Marketing, a New York-based provider of targeted out-of-home media and
promotional programs for brand advertisers in the United States and
Canada. ClubCom, a provider of customized digital media networks for the
fitness and bowling industries, had been part of Precor’s fitness
division since 2004. Terms of the private transaction were not
disclosed.

launching Cane-Fu Aerobics next month at its six locations in Southern
California. The class was created after staff members learned that many
older people who carry a cane were interested in honing their
self-defense skills. The class incorporates self-defense skills and
balance training along with an aerobic workout.

the reality weight-loss TV show “The Biggest Loser: Families” to

machines. The sixth season of the show focuses on getting families into

healthy habits. “The Biggest Loser: Families” premiered Sept. 16 on
NBC. 24 Hour Fitness is supporting the reality show for the sixth

a combination of Internet advertising and a 30-second TV commercial to
increase visibility and generate leads for personal trainers.

announced a new line of fitness management tools that help independent
gyms and personal trainers generate new revenue opportunities and
improve member/client satisfaction and retention. HyperStrike Pro
includes exercise tools that allow personal trainers to train clients
