Organization Aims To
Promote Worker Health
ATLANTA –- The International
Association for Worksite Health Promotion (IAWHP), an affiliate of
the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), was introduced March 27
at the 13th Annual ACSM Health & Fitness Summit & Exposition in Atlanta,
GA. The IAWHP was designed to provide resources and education to
worksite health practitioners and to companies wishing to hire a
practitioner or start worksite health programs. It’s estimated that
87.5 percent of health care claims are the result of the employee’s
lifestyle choices, so worksite health promotion programs can greatly
reduce health care costs, IAWHP says.

IHRSA honored the following individuals and companies for their

Four-year-old Advait Gopan, of Munster, IN, died March 25 in a
Chicago hospital after nearly drowning the previous day in the pool at
the Omni 41 Health Center in Schererville, IN. In a statement, a
spokeswoman for Saint Margaret Mercy Healthcare Centers, owner of Omni
41, said Advait was attending a supervised camp called Spring Break
Escape. Crisis counselors were brought to the camp to provide support.
Investigators reviewed security camera footage from the pool area but
have yet to determine exactly what happened to the boy, local media
reported. Autopsy results released by the Cook County (IL) Medical
Examiner’s office determined the cause of death to be accidental
drowning.
