In Brief...
180 Sports & Fitness, which opened as a gym/sports complex in
2006 in Knoxville, TN, after two former Court South employees acquired
the club formerly run by Bally Total Fitness, has filed for Chapter 11
bankruptcy, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports. The company
listed assets and liabilities of $1 million to $10 million. Creditors
with secured claims against the company totaling $1.3 million include
Bear Stearns Commercial Mortgage Inc., the Internal Revenue Service and
the U.S. Small Business Administration, the newspaper reports.
Elements is expanding its upscale women-only brand into Canada with
a flagship Toronto location. The club is expected to open in early
2010. Miami-based elements currently has 12 U.S. locations with 55
franchised locations under planned development. The company has been
adding health club locations in signature markets such as Chicago,
Atlanta and New York since its inception in 2004.
The $15 million Valparaiso, IN, YMCA opened its doors May 4. The new
80,000-square-foot facility enables the YMCA to offer expanded health,
wellness, educational and family enrichment programs. It features a
state-of-the-art fitness and wellness center, a warm water therapy pool
as well as a recreational pool and six-lane 25-meter lap pool, group
fitness studios and an indoor walking/running track.

Have a question regarding Club Management
Software?
Ask Michael Scott Scudder, Club Management Expert
Q: I’m looking for club software that can be
customized to meet my particular needs. Certain companies say they can,
but no one has followed through with their promise. I have nine clubs in
six states, so I need one central location to host membership data for
all nine clubs. Can you recommend someone?
A: Almost every club owner I have ever met thinks he
has particular needs that no software company is offering in its
standard package. Problem is, no owner wants to spend the additional
money necessary to customize software. All that said, I think Conexion
does a great job of customizing - I have seen several of their custom
packages, really good - and if I am in your shoes I would contact them
first...read
