Bally Total Fitness, Chicago, recently closed its two clubs in
the Dayton, OH, area, according to the Dayton Daily News. Bally
closed its Centerville, OH, club last Tuesday and its Englewood, OH,
club last Friday. Bally spokesperson Larry Larsen told the newspaper
that the decision to close the clubs came after a review of Bally’s
real estate holdings.
World Gym International, Los Angeles, has appointed Helen Rockey as
its chief operating officer. Rockey has held numerous executive
positions with companies in the sporting goods industry, including Nike,
Brooks and Just For Feet. The Joyce J. Cammilleri family purchased World
Gym from Planet Fitness last December.
Parisi Franchise Systems, franchisor of Parisi Speed School,
appointed Rick Caro to its board of directors effective April 1. As a
member of the Parisi board, Caro will provide counsel to Parisi’s
leadership team. “We are truly honored to have Rick Caro join our
board of directors,” said Bill Parisi, founder and CEO of Parisi Speed
School. “Rick brings unmatched experience in working with our target
audience of health clubs at strategic levels throughout the
industry.”

launched a new Web site with simpler navigation and a comparison
checklist for club owners to use when shopping for a billing or software
company. “We hope our Web site can not only educate users about our
services but also assist them in choosing a company that best fits their
business model,” says Rachelle Dodge, ASF’s marketing manager.
DC Brands International
Inc., a company that produces energy drinks, announced that Carlos
Aviles has joined the company as its national fitness and gym retail
sales manager. Aviles has more than 16 years in the health club industry
and has had business ventures with companies such as Gold’s Gym and
Anytime Fitness.
Big Ass Fans has introduced
its latest product, Isis, a fan that weighs less than 100 pounds and is
designed for smaller facilities with ceilings as low as 12 feet. Isis
comes in 8-, 9- and 10-foot diameters and works in conjunction with HVAC
systems to distribute conditioned air and reduce energy
consumption.
