Club Owner Pleads Guilty to Credit Card Fraud
NASHUA, NH -- A New Hampshire club owner pleaded guilty to
violations of the state’s consumer protection act after cutting a deal
with the state’s attorney general. Sean Corriveau, former manager and
president of Elite Fitness Inc., is required to pay $14,000 of
restitution for fraudulent credit card use and must serve a 30-day jail

AFP Designs Fitness
Center for Florida Apartments
ORLANDO, FL -- Advantage Fitness Products (AFP) recently completed a
fitness center project for the Apartment Investment and Management Co.
(AIMCO), as part of an extensive remodeling of the 600-unit Sun Lake
Apartment facility in southern Florida. AFP handled the planning, design
and supply buying for the new fitness center.
“Providing a high-quality fitness environment can pay significant
dividends in the multi-dwelling business from several standpoints,
including tenant satisfaction, reducing churn and even revenue
generation,” says Bryan Green, president and CEO of AFP. The company
incorporated equipment from Precor and Paramount for the project, as
well as an array of dumbbells and accessories, such as resistance bands
and stretching mats.

In Brief...
The YMCA of Southern Illinois received a $206,150 grant from the
U.S. Department of Education. The grant may be used to expand the Y’s
physical education programs, including after-school programs, to help
students meet the state physical education standards.
The 2009 Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series Race to the Toyota Cup
begins July 11 with the Life Time Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis.
Other events in the series are the Nautica New York City Triathlon on
July 26, the Chicago Triathlon on Aug. 30, the Kaiser Permanente Los
Angeles Triathlon on Oct. 4 and the Toyota U.S. Open Triathlon
Championship Event on Oct. 11 in Dallas.
Fitness Together Franchise Corp. has launched its redesigned Web site. The site features a
new opt-in e-mail marketing campaign for consumers and an online
application process for franchise prospects. The site also is equipped
with video, sharing features and easy-to-navigate functions aimed to
handle increased site traffic and assist with growing consumer and
franchise sales.

Fiserv Inc. launched the
next release of its Compete software. The updated software includes an
electronic contract management feature that supports multiple contracts
and multiple forms of payment for each club member, including checks,
debit and credit cards. Compete also allows multiple service agreements,
different billing cycles and different due dates. Compete also now
includes the ability to capture electronic signatures and sell personal
training visits as dues-related revenue with configurable expiration
dates for flexibility.
Motus USA was recently
selected to outfit the Lancaster (PA) Family YMCA cardio deck for the
Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA branch. Motus treadmills, exercise bikes and
cross-trainer ellipticals were installed at the 38,000-square-foot
facility. Motus also recently sold M-Racing indoor cycling NRG and
Fusion models for the Ellicott City (MD) YMCA location of the Y of
Central Maryland. A second fleet of the M-Racing Series of indoor
cycling bikes also was installed at the YMCA in Perry Hall, MD.
Polar announced a partnership
with America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) and plans to offer
AHIP’s health plan members its heart rate tracking technology for
integration into their wellness offerings.
The Aerobics and Fitness
Association of America (AFAA) is again offering its personal trainer
certifications at lower prices, this time during APEX, which will be
held Sept. 11-13 in health clubs around the country. The goal of APEX is
to make certifications affordable through $99-a-day-per-program
workshops. AFAA certifies in personal training, group exercise, step
aerobics and kickboxing. The organization also educates and trains
people within other specialties that include Pilates, yoga, indoor
cycling, injury prevention and more.
Mark de Gorter has been appointed president of Power Plate North America. He will
work closely with parent company Power Plate International, London, on
global product and marketing initiatives. De Gorter most recently had
been COO for Velocity Sports Performance. He also has worked for J.
Walter Thompson/USA on the Health & Tennis Corporation of America
advertising account and helped lead its transition to the company
currently known as Bally Total Fitness, which he later joined to manage
its advertising and marketing.
