Retro Fitness, a 1980s-themed chain based in Colts Neck, NJ, has
bought the rights to the phone number 867-5309, made famous in a 1980s
hit song by Tommy Tutone. The number had been auctioned off in February
on eBay for a bid of more than $350,000, but the deal was not
consummated. Terms of the acquisition, completed last month, were not
disclosed. Retro Fitness uses the phone number, with a 201 area code, as
a connection to its franchising department.
