Bally May File
for Chapter 11
CHICAGO -- Bally Total Fitness may file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection if it is unable to restructure its debt, the company
announced on Thursday. Bally also said that it informed the U.S.
Securities and Exchange Commission that it is unable to file its annual
report for 2006, which was due last week. The company is not sure when
it will file the report. In a separate filing with the SEC, Bally said
that it has identified errors in its membership numbers that could
negatively affect revenue for 2006. Read the full story.

The Sports
Club/LA Moves East
LOS ANGELES -- The Sports Club/LA is venturing out of California
next year with its first club in Dallas. The new facility will be an
80,000-square-foot, $35 million luxury sports and fitness complex
offering more than 30 sports and fitness options under one roof. The
club will feature a lobby of stone and woods showcasing a reflection
pool and three-story window wall, a 15,000-square-foot weight training
gym, a 150-piece cardiovascular center with each piece of equipment
featuring a personal TV and an NBA-size gymnasium with two basketball

YMCA of
Central Maryland Plans to Double Size
BALTIMORE -- The YMCA of Central Maryland will conduct a major
realignment of the organization, including plans to double the size of
the organization during the next 10 years, rebrand the YMCA's logo and
name, redevelop the Y's current facilities and attempt to double its
annual private donations, according to The Examiner in Baltimore.
The Y of Central Maryland serves more than 150,000 people each year in
Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, and Howard
Counties in Maryland.

Focuses on New Cardio Options
WHIDBEY ISLAND, WA -- In early March, representatives from the Navy
Fitness program office based in Millington, TN, provided information on
initiatives and issues related to the physical fitness assessment (PFA),
including medical waivers, and the preventive health assessment and
physical activity risk factor questionnaires. The summit also addressed
questions about the new physical readiness training rules --
specifically, the cardio options that offer sailors the chance to use

Celebrity Doctor
to Keynote at Club Industry East
STAMFORD, CT -- Club Industry East show organizers recently
announced that they are adding a second keynote address to the show. Dr.
Ian Smith is a medical contributor to "The View," contributing editor
for Men's Health magazine, medical/diet expert on VH1's
"Celebrity Fit Club" and host of the nationally syndicated radio show
HealthWatch on American Urban Radio Networks. The Club Industry East
show takes place June 6-9 at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort in
Orlando. Smith will speak on June 7.
Exercise Boosts
Memory
NEW YORK -- Exercise does more than keep your heart healthy. It also
boosts brainpower. Researchers recently found that exercise targets a
region of the brain within the hippocampus that underlies normal
age-related memory decline that begins around age 30 for most adults.

Swimming, launched in late February. The campaign is aimed at decreasing
the number of drowning accidents in the United States, fostering greater
diversity in the sport and encouraging people of all ages to embrace
swimming. The first phase of the campaign will be executed through a
number of new programs and partnerships. Also, three USA Swimming
representatives will speak at the 2007
World Aquatic Health™ Conference, scheduled for Oct. 2-4 in
Cincinnati, OH. The seminars will reflect the broader USA Swimming
focus.
