CHICAGO -- YMCAs across the country have increased programs to
address weight gain and obesity among youth and adults, according to a
report by the YMCA of the USA, which studied changes in programming from

Personal Training Company
Offers Franchises
NEW CANAAN, CT -- The owners of Personal Training Professionals
(PTP) have begun selling their club model as a franchise.
The personal training franchises will be sold to fitness professionals.
PTP will give the franchisees an initial boost by helping with site
selection, owner training, marketing plans and other items to get
started. The original location in New Canaan, CT, is the only one sold
so far, according to Jason Baer, president of PTP. The franchises will
be sold at a flat fee of $35,000, with a 6 percent royalty charged
annually.
The franchise model offers a variety of profit centers, including
nutritional counseling, massage therapy, small group exercise classes
and youth fitness programs, Baer says.
"I am tremendously proud to share our methodology and business practices
to help others achieve the success we have seen over the past nine
years," Baer says. "Our franchisees and all of our trainers are highly
qualified, motivated individuals who are versed in the specific methods
of PTP. Our attention to detail and commitment to excellence is second
to none."

Fitness Fee Increases at
Penn State
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA -- Students at Penn State University will be
paying more to work out this year. The fitness membership fee increased
$9 per semester from last year because of the addition of the Rec Hall
fitness center, according to the university's newspaper, The Daily

Governor Signs Fitness Bill
AUSTIN, TX -- Texas Gov. Rick Perry recently signed Senate Bill 530
requiring more physical fitness for children in third through 12th
grades. The bill requires fitness evaluations to be conducted each year

Participate in Half Marathon From Persian Gulf
USS ENTERPRISE, AT SEA -- Although Marines and sailors in the
Enterprise Carrier Strike Group were on duty on the USS Enterprise in
the Persian Gulf, they were still able to run in the seventh annual Rock
'n' Roll Half Marathon held on Aug. 30 in Virginia Beach, VA, thanks to
the Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) department's creative

Life Time Fitness has purchased the White Bear Racquet & Swim
Club in White Bear Lake, MN. The new facility will be the 25th in the
Twin Cities area for Life Time Fitness and 66th nationally. Employees at
the White Bear facility have been given the opportunity to remain with
the facility.
Gold's Gym has hired Stephen Dixon as its new director of franchise
development, the company announced Thursday. Dixon will be responsible
for awarding Gold's Gym franchise opportunities to a targeted pool of
candidates in the United States. Dixon was formerly the franchise sales
and area director for the Colorado-based pizza chain Nick-N-Willy's
Franchise Co.
