South Dakota Y Bookkeeper
Charged with Theft and Forgery
LEAD, SD -- A former bookkeeper at the Northern Hills Family YMCA in
Lead, SD, was sentenced to seven years in a state penitentiary for grand
theft and forgery. The bookkeeper, Shelley Stevenson of Rapid City, SD,
allegedly issued paychecks to herself, her daughters and her husband,
and increased her wages by $3.80 an hour without approval of the Y

Switches to On-Site Energy Facility
NATICK, MA -- The Longfellow Clubs is going green and on-site for
its energy needs. The Massachusetts club company recently signed an
agreement to receive a substantial portion of its electricity, heat,
domestic hot water and swimming pool heat directly from an on-site,
75-kilowatt cogeneration facility that will be owned, installed and

Village Athletic and Tennis Club Showcases Members
DENVER, CO -- Greenwood Village Athletic and Tennis Club is
celebrating its 20th anniversary by displaying pictures featuring the
"best parts" of long-time members who are between the ages of 30 and 60.
Attributes on display are members' legs, punches, arms, peace of mind,
tennis serve and abs. The campaign will also display a photo of three
children with the text, "The best part of me...my friends." The club
wanted to represent a variety of features to show that fitness is more
than a physical look. Greenwood placed the artwork on canvas banners,
which will be on display for one year.

New Facility at Syracuse
Meets ADA Requirements
SYRACUSE, NY -- Syracuse University opened a 3,900-square-foot
facility on Aug. 27 that was converted from a former record theater and
massage venue in a strip mall next to campus. The facility meets
requirements of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Two of the 10 treadmills in the facility have Braille overlays, and the
floor has orange-colored aisles as a guide for the visually impaired.
The facility, which is open to Syracuse students, faculty, staff and
alumni who have an alumni pass, also has three unisex bathrooms with
showers that meet all ADA requirements.

Air Force Marathon Sets Records
WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, OHIO -- The 11th Annual U.S. Air
Force Marathon set a new participation and course record last weekend.
More than 6,300 runners participated in the marathon events, and more
than 2,000 volunteers supported this year's five events. Besides the
full and half marathon, the Air Force Marathon included four-person
relay races, a 5K race and a wheelchair race. Read the full story.

In Brief...
New York Sports Club will open its first fitness facility in
West Hartford, CT, this fall. The 35,000 square-foot facility will be
the company's ninth location in Connecticut. The club will feature
state-of-the-art equipment with audiovisual entertainment, a four-lane
pool, a therapy pool and a Jacuzzi. Fitness classes, such as yoga and
Pilates, will be offered as well. The new club will be located in a
mixed-use area, which will include a movie theater, a Whole Foods store
and retailer REI.
Actress Susan Sarandon and actor/rapper Mos Def are the honorary
co-chairs of the fourth annual Children's Sports & Fitness Expo, which
will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29, in New York. The expo helps
combat childhood obesity by introducing children to more than 25 sports
activities, nutrition classes and health screenings.

Adam Sacco and Nikki Layke joined the team at ABC Financial Services
Inc. as senior account executives. Sacco has 15 years of industry
experience as a personal trainer, in health club management in the
Atlanta area and as a senior account manager for Getmembers.com. Sacco
will work in new account development and sales. Layke was previously
vice president of operations for the Thomas Plummer Co. and the director
of the National Fitness Business Alliance. Layke will speak at trade
shows and work with clubs to improve their financial situations.
Expresso Fitness
Corp., Sunnyvale, CA, will move its headquarters to a larger
facility to accommodate the growth of the company. The company's new
headquarters has more than 35,000 square feet of office and operational
space. The new location will have space for engineering, assembly,
testing, shipping and receiving for the next two years.
WaterRower Inc. introduced a free interactive Web site, We-Row.com, that allows WaterRower
users to practice their skills at home. The program also allows users to
set up races with other rowers. Users can connect the program to S4
monitors, which are standard on all WaterRower units sold since May
2005. Users who have the S3 monitors can get an upgrade kit for $225
that allows the equipment to work with the Web site.
FitLinxx and FitSense are
teaming up to provide technology-based solutions to motivate people to
become more active. FitLinxx works with YMCAs, commercial fitness clubs,
medical fitness centers, recreation centers and military facilities.
FitSense manufactures wireless and low-power sensor technology that
enables users to track physical activity and health data. The
partnership will allow customers to use wireless devices that collect
information from fitness equipment, personal activity devices and health
monitors.
24 Hour Fitness selected RetailAction, a software
application manufactured by Reflexis Systems Inc., to implement an
integrated suite of applications for task management, labor scheduling,
mobile store walk and KPI monitoring. The RetailAction suite enables
coordinated planning, streamlined communications and scheduling,
workload optimization, and the monitoring of key sales and operations
trends.
