New Personal Training Franchise Launches
ANAHEIM, CA -- After 12 years in business, Mike Salerno is launching
a franchise version of his personal training studio, Precision Fitness,
Anaheim, CA. Salerno had three facilities, but he recently sold two of
them to franchisees so that he could concentrate on franchising the
business. He plans to have 10 franchises open by the end of this year,

Florida First Coast Y
Receives $16 Million Donation
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Starting Feb. 1, current Florida First Coast
YMCA members in Jacksonville, FL, will have another Y where they can
work out. Earlier this month, Brooks Rehabilitation, a provider of
inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation care in northeast Florida and
southeast Georgia, donated its 60,000-square-foot Brooks Health and
Fitness Center to the Y. The donation is estimated to be worth more than
$16 million and is the largest donation ever made to the First Coast Y.

North Carolina Y Begins Wellness Pilot
Program
SHELBY, NC -- The Cleveland County Family YMCA in North Carolina has
started a wellness pilot program for designated North Carolina state
employees, according to The Shelby (NC) Star. The program is in
partnership with the State Health Plan of North Carolina, which provides
health care coverage to more than 644,000 teachers, state employees,
retirees, current and former lawmakers, state university and community
college personnel, state hospital staff, and their dependents. Read the

ARLINGTON, VA -- The number of complaints received by the Better
Business Bureau (BBB) for fitness clubs has increased more than 90
percent in the last five years, according to a recent BBB study. Read

ACE Predicts Fun
for 2008
SAN DIEGO -- This year promises to be filled with water aerobics,
boxing clubs and spicy Latin dancing. That's according to an annual
survey by the American Council on Exercise of its worldwide network of
personal trainers, group fitness experts, advanced health and fitness
specialists, and lifestyle and weight management consultants. Some
trends continue from 2007, including functional fitness, balance
training and increased access to personal training for all segments of

Personal Training Institute's (PTI) Westchester, NY, franchisee,
Arnold Scacchi, was recently awarded the area development rights to
develop and operate multiple clubs throughout Westchester. Twelve PTI
facilities have been established from Maine to New York. Twenty-two
franchise locations are in development throughout New York and
Pennsylvania.

medicine ball was recently featured and used by contestants on the
popular reality weight-loss TV show, "The Biggest Loser," on NBC.
Stott Pilates appointed
two new members to its management team. Holly Henderson will serve as
senior vice president, marketing, and Kerrie Lee Brown was named vice
president, communications. Henderson has worked previously in product
management and marketing. Brown has 10 years of experience in the health
and fitness industry as a journalist, magazine consultant, motivational
speaker, writer and editor. Brown was previously editor-in-chief of
Oxygen Women's Fitness magazine.
The
CheckFree Health & Fitness business unit, now part of Fiserv Inc.,
announced this month that CheckFree has joined the Gold's Gym national
vendor program. The company is now a preferred provider of
club-management software, electronic funds transfer, and credit-card
processing and outsourced billing services to Gold's Gym franchises and
corporate-owned facilities.
Taraflex Sports Flooring
by Gerflor installed a new 30,000-square-foot maple design floor in
Sullivan County Community College's (NY) Paul Gerry Fieldhouse. Three
Taraflex flooring products were used in the fieldhouse, which serves as
home to athletic competitions, intramural programs, physical education
classes and community events on the college's campus. Taraflex Sport M
Plus was used for the center basketball court. Taraflex Multi-Use 3.0
surrounds the basketball court on three sides and extends underneath the
bleachers. The other half of the fieldhouse is covered with Taraflex
Multi-Use 5.0 flooring. Game lines were drawn on the flooring for five
basketball, three badminton, two tennis and three volleyball courts, as
well as a five-lane sprint track and a three-lane running track.
Mondo's Super X track
flooring will be installed at several U.S. military bases. Fort Bliss in
El Paso, TX, and Keesler Air Force Base in Gulfport, MS, will install
10-mm Super X tracks this month. Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC, will
install a 14-mm Super X track in March.
Life Fitness recently
received the Medical Fitness Association's (MFA) Board of Directors
Award for significant advancement in the medical fitness industry. Award
recipients were chosen by a conference award review committee for
outstanding dedication to a healthy lifestyle. Recognitions were
presented during the MFA awards luncheon at the Athletic Business
Conference & Expo in Orlando.
