SUV Crash
Injures Six at Iowa Y
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA -- Six people were injured last week when an SUV
crashed into the front doors of the Stoney Point YMCA in Cedar Rapids,
IA. According to local media reports, the driver of the SUV hit the gas
instead of the brakes when parking. Three men, two women and a
3-year-old boy were hurt inside the Y during the crash.
According to the Stoney Point Y’s Web site, the original facility was
built in December 1984. In October 2003, a $2.5 million expansion
project was completed at the facility, roughly doubling the original
17,000-square-foot facility. The expanded facility is about 35,000
square feet and houses a six-lane, 25-yard pool, along with a larger
health and wellness center, drop-in nursery, aerobics room, and expanded
lobby.
