Guinness Cycling Record at Illinois YMCA
NAPERVILLE, IL -- The Fry Family YMCA in Naperville, IL, is going
down in the “Guinness Book of World Records.” On May 12, at the Y,
George Hood set a new world record by pedaling 178 hours on a stationary
bike. In the process, he helped raise $30,000 for the facility’s

New Fitness Test for
Adults Launched
WASHINGTON, DC -- The President’s Council on Physical Fitness and
Sports launched a new national fitness test for adults last week. The
test involves a one-mile walk or a 1.5-mile run to test aerobic fitness,
sit-ups or push-ups to test muscular strength and endurance, a
sit-and-reach test to measure flexibility, and a body mass index test to

The National Business Group on Health (NBGH), a national
non-profit organization of large employers, awarded Fiserv Inc., owner
of CheckFree, the Best
Employers for Healthy Lifestyles award for its commitment and dedication
to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging a healthy lifestyle for
its employees and their families. Fiserv is one of 52 employers who
received the award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the NBGH’s
Institute on Costs and Health Effects of Obesity. Fiserv launched its
wellness initiative in 2003. In 2006 and 2007, the company was given a
silver award.
Through International Table Tennis Federation and International
Volleyball Federation agreements, Gerflor Taraflex will supply
courts for volleyball and table tennis tournaments during the next
Olympic Games in Beijing. With 14 volleyball courts in seven locations
and two table tennis sites, there will be more than 160,000 square feet
of Gerflor Sports Flooring at these events.
Expresso Fitness has raised
$12 million in a Series C-2 round of funding. The financing will be used
to expand the company’s product portfolio and market reach, driving
its revenue growth, according to the company. San Francisco-based Physic
Ventures, a new investor in Expresso Fitness, led the funding and was
joined by existing investors Sierra Ventures and Enterprise Partners
Venture Capital. Andy Donner, director at Physic Ventures, has also
joined Expresso’s board of directors.
To kick off the U.S. release of Wii Fit, Nintendo held a launch event Monday
at New York’s Central Park Merchants’ Gate that featured celebrity
trainer Ashley Borden. Wii Fit’s fitness regimen, led by a virtual
personal trainer, includes yoga, aerobics and strength training. The
game can also track a person’s weight and body mass index. People can
play soccer, ski, go snowboarding or hula-hooping on the game’s
balance board. Wii Fit, which retails for $89.99, communicates with the
required Nintendo Wii console, which retails for $249. Wii Fit, which
was previously released in Japan and Europe, already is sold out in
pre-launch sales on Amazon.com and the Web sites for retailers such as
Wal-Mart.
