Permeable pavements put to test at EPA facility

EPA has initiated a 10-year investigation of pervious concrete, permeable interlocking concrete, and porous asphalt pavements recently placed in a parking lot at its Edison, N.J., Environment Center. “Runoff from parking lots and driveways is a significant source of water pollution and puts undo stress on our water infrastructure, especially in densely populated urban areas,” said EPA Acting Regional Administrator George Pavlou. CalStar sets Greenbuild launch for fly ash-based brick, pavers

CalStar will unveil two profiles of high fly ash content architectural brick (ASTM C-216 compliant) and Holland (ASTM C-902 compliant) pavers at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, Nov. 11-13 in Phoenix. The launch is in advance of the company’s anticipated December start up of a Caledonia, Wis., production line deriving fly ash from Wisconsin Energy’s Oak Creek station. Loaded with shift selection software, the new Eaton family features the Vocational Multipurpose Series and Vocational Construction Series models; with torque capacities from 1,450–2,250 lb.-ft., they offer up to 300 lbs. of weight savings compared to torque converter-type automatics. Hearing conservation group petitions OSHA to lower noise exposure threshold

NHCA has requested the Occupational Safety and Health Administration lower the Occupation Noise Standard 29 CFR 1910.95 permissible exposure limit (PEL) from 90 dBA to 85 dBA, and action level from 85 to 80 dBA. Citing recent research by NIOSH and other organizations, NHCA contends that American workers face a considerable risk of noise-induced hearing loss associated with long-term.
