Trial lawyers allege price fixing among
deep-pocketed Florida operators

A class action lawsuit Gilman and Pastor has filed in U.S. District
Court for the Southern District of Florida alleges that major Sunshine
State cement and ready mixed concrete producers have engaged in a
price-fixing conspiracy throughout this decade. Attorneys allege in a
complaint that defendants “eliminated competition in the markets for
cement and concrete by charging artificially high prices for these
products in Florida.” Filed on behalf of individuals or entities who
purchased cement or concrete from defendants, the lawsuit seeks treble
damages and injunctive relief.

Feds shelve illegal project labor agreement-bound

The U.S. Department of Labor cancelled a letting for its $11 million
Job Corps Center in Manchester, N.H., following a protest ABC member
North Branch Construction filed with the Government Accountability
Office over a stipulation that work fall under a project labor agreement
(PLA). The Concord, N.H., contractor challenged the legality of the PLA
requirement, which essentially sets union-level wages and benefits for

Associated Builders’ 2010 forecast shows signs
of recession’s end, jobs returning

in 2009, expect 2010 to be a sluggish transition on the road to
recovery, says ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu. “Through late 2008,

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Air
Resources Board have certified Mack’s MP7 and MP8 engines as meeting
near-zero emissions standards effective January 2010. The first
heavy-duty truck manufacturer to log certification from both agencies,
Mack credits the engines’ compliance and low nitrogen oxides emissions
to the use of selective catalytic reduction. It enabled engineers to
retune the EPA ’07-compliant MP series for additional power, lower
heat rejection and reduced fuel consumption--without major modifications
