VCNA Prairie joins Levy behind Superior Materials

Levy Co. and VCNA Prairie have entered a 50/50 joint venture to own and manage Superior Material Holdings, LLC in Detroit. The move coincides with U.S. Concrete’s exit from a partnership with Levy backing the entity since 2007, when the business spanned 28 ready mixed plants and a fleet of nearly 300 mixers—assets since scaled back with the Michigan economy’s sharp decline. Michigan exit, Texas additions continue U.S. Concrete realignment

Following a financial reorganization completed just before Labor Day, U.S. Concrete is further focusing ready-mixed production assets around Texas, California Bay Area, and metro-New York/New Jersey markets. The company has closed on three ready-mixed plants in west Texas, adding them to its strong Ingram Concrete platform, and withdrawn from its Michigan joint venture, Superior Materials Holdings, LLC, with Edw. Labor Board eases redress for employees fired during organizing campaigns

When charges filed in connection with employee terminations amid union organizing campaigns are found meritorious, the NLRB general counsel’s office will now consider seeking a federal 10(j) injunction compelling an employer to offer worker reinstatement pending litigation of the underlying unfair labor practice case.
