Liebherr Concrete
Technology
BOOTH G-370
The manufacturer has tailored the Easymix 1.0 model,
originally developed in Europe, for North American ready mixed and
precast operations. Designed for minimum transport and assembly, the
plant ships in a 40-ft. container with fully integrated: 1.3-yd. ring
pan mixer; four individual loader-charged aggregate bins; water pump,
reservoir and batcher; and, control room and microprocessor control.
Shipped separate from the container are a weigh module for water and
cement as well as an optional loading conveyor for truck mixers, plus
cement-charging components.
Once on site, side walls of the silo elements are folded upwards or slid
inside, and the aggregate can be fed immediately, typically by wheel
loader. Company engineers note that the model can produce low- and
high-slump concrete mixes at rates of 45-50 yd./hour. The container
element bears on a steel foundation as standard in lieu of a separate
concrete structure.

Schwing-Stetter Mixer Automatic Revolution Technology
(SMART) Drum technology combines the benefits of constant drum speed
with a control system that company engineers estimate can save up to 80
percent in drum wear by optimizing rpm. Smart Drum automatically
maintains optimum drum rpm, eliminating the need to activate a constant
speed device, while operators control drum rpm in loading or discharge
modes.
Over the road, after the truck has reached a preset threshold speed, a
cab-mounted light indicates Smart Drum engagement, as drum control is
kept independent of engine speed. Using industry trip and distance
averages, the technology extends the life of the drum to as much as 10.5
years, company engineers contend. Other system benefits, they add,
include improved mix quality; enhanced stability owing to the center of
gravity held constant; and, less horsepower draw with resulting fuel
savings from fewer drum rotations.
Separately, Schwing has unveiled the S 36 SX concrete pump with RZ4
Boom. The four-section RZ4 combines what company engineers note are the
best features of two boom types, Roll and Fold and Z tip, enabling
placement at distances exceeding 118-feet vertically and 104-feet
horizontally.
The RZ4 boom benefits from the Roll and Fold design with the added
advantage of a 270-degree Z-fold tip section, the manufacturer notes. As
the boom unfolds, it straightens itself, keeping the pipeline close to
the boom and allowing the use of shorter pipe arm holders for a narrower
profile. The new model also incorporates Super X Outriggers for fat
set-up and extended horizontal reach. The curved front outriggers
telescope out and around obstacles while providing a compact and stable
pumping platform.
The standard Generation 3 2025-5 120/80 MPS concrete pump provides up to
178 yd./hour at 23 strokes per minute. The all-hydraulic design utilizes
the Big Rock Valve, promoting maximum filling efficiency of the material
cylinders even with harsh mixes. Open circuit design provides continuous
hydraulic oil flow for better filtration and cooling.

Con-E-Co
BOOTH S-813
A prototype of the nontilting Horizontal Reversing
Mixer (HRM) will be unveiled as an alternative to conventional drum
models used in central mixed and highway concrete plants. The HRM offers
what company engineers note are quiet operation, aggressive mixing
action, and an operating mode based on advanced components that minimize
maintenance costs. Manufacturer-cited features include:
- Sealed mixing drum with variable speed drive to optimize discharge
rate and minimize dust
- Climate controlled U.L.-rated service panel for longer life and a
dust-free environment
- Dual element paddles supported from the drum paddles, eliminating
the need for a center support and reducing concrete build-up
- Drive motors wired to individual disconnects for easier maintenance
and a reduced need for expensive field wiring
- Precise factory drive alignment with built-in precision field
realignment feature
- Mixing and discharge paddles with open slots between paddles and
drum for less daily clean up

Caterpillar,
Inc.
BOOTH G-140, N-2007
Most of the manufacturer's new core mining and
industrial machines will be equipped with a remote asset-management
solution -- EquipmentManager and Product Link. While the manufacturer
has provided remote asset management as an option since 1998, these
capabilities now will be delivered as an integral part of most core
Caterpillar machines in U.S. and Canadian markets. Product Link will be
available as an option for the remaining Caterpillar machines.
EquipmentManager/Product Link provides full-depth asset management,
maintenance, and health information required by equipment managers to
effectively handle their fleets, system developers note. Using key
indicators from equipment, such as hours, location, and diagnostic
codes, plus tools such as mapping, maintenance scheduling, and
troubleshooting instructions, EquipmentManager -- a secure, web-based
application -- identifies events requiring attention and delivers
information in an intelligible and actionable manner. Product Link is
the hardware using satellite technology that enables information flow
between on-board systems and EquipmentManager. The remote management
system provides machine location and hours, as well as time and
geo-fencing capabilities.
The manufacturer will begin phasing in EquipmentManager/Product Link
with wheeled hydraulic excavators and articulated trucks. Remaining
machines will be equipped with the system throughout 2008.

Scaletron
BOOTH G-8852
Suited to North American ready mixed and worldwide
mass-concrete operations, the Sicoma MAO12000 mixer will be available in
two versions: Double Discharge Doors for single- or twin-alley ready
mixed plants and Bomb-Bay Discharge Door (BBD) for dams and
roller-compacted concrete. The Bomb-Bay door -- at three times the area
of a regular full-length door -- will discharge a full 10.5 yards of
concrete in three seconds.

Universal Flow
Monitors
BOOTH GP-50338
Benefiting mixer maintenance, concrete batch quality,
and truck fleet management, the company affirms, the 2FR dual-purpose
water-add/chute-washout system is designed to monitor and record water
flow added to concrete batches. In addition, the system activates a flow
alarm when washout occurs after a concrete pour; thus, fleet operators
can use 2FR units with flow alarms in a satellite navigation system to
notify dispatchers when trucks are ready for redeployment.
The system incorporates a CoolPoint vortex shedding flowmeter, providing
accuracy of +/-1 percent of actual flow to meet FP-03 552.05 standards
of the Federal Highway Administration. CoolPoint is a nonmechanical
meter with no moving parts to stick or coat. Thus, it is not susceptible
to failure due to particulate blockage nor to typical flowmeter
problems, such as acid wash, meter hang-up caused by entrained dirt, and
compressed air over-ranging. Moreover, system developers emphasize,
2FR's solenoid valve is more dependable than a manual valve for adding
water, as a 'fully on/fully off' feature avoids the hazards of a
partially opened manual valve that maintains flow below a rate
accommodated by the flowmeter.
The 2FR water-management system can accommodate flows from 1.8 gpm to 50
gpm. The system's washout switch actuates at 2-gpm flow. Total amount of
water added is indicated on a cab LCD display in a self-contained box
that also holds the solenoid valve actuation button. The system includes
cabling for power to truck battery, valves and the in-cab display.
