If you’ve been paying any attention to politics lately, it seems like the nation has slid into the pages of a George Orwell or Ayn Rand novel. Capitalism is under attack from demagogues on all sides of the ideological spectrum. Business has never been more demonized and profitability has never been more derided. Our nation’s leaders are acting as though businesspeople should be ashamed of making a profit.

Over the last few months we’ve had the opportunity to interview over forty HVAC contractors concerning their opinions on what a typical US residential maintenance agreement consists of. We were amazed to find prices ranging from $29.95 to $649.00 for a single residential system and the services offered ranged from a filter change to a complete ACCA Standard 4 Quality Maintenance Checklist. Our objective was to better understand the “average” US HVAC maintenance agreement.

Many industry professionals have been asking what’s become of our annual HVAC Comfortech event. The good news is: Comfortech is alive and well. In fact, Comfortech is bigger and better than ever.
HVAC Comfortech has simply evolved. What was once an event focused solely on HVACR contractors first became a component of HVACR Week (still focused on HVACR but designed to attract designers and specifiers as well as contractors), and has now become a component of the three-pronged Mechanical Systems Week. Mechanical Systems Week is our annual HVAC Comfortech event with the addition of new hydronics and plumbing components: HydronicTech and PlumbTech.
Encompassing the entire mechanical contracting specialty – HVACR, hydronics and plumbing – Mechanical Systems Week will take place September 19-21, 2012, in Schaumburg, IL. Just as Comfortech has historically done, the conference component of Mechanical Systems Week will feature sessions on Business Management, Service Management and Sales & Marketing. Designed to help owners and managers of contracting firms run their businesses better and more efficiently, those sessions will appeal to all contractors involved in mechanical contracting specialties. In addition, Technical Sessions will be offered specific to each of the three disciplines: HVACR, hydronics and plumbing.
Our Product Showcase component will now feature equipment and products of interest to hydronics and plumbing contractors as well as the residential and commercial HVACR equipment traditionally exhibited.
HVAC Comfortech continues to thrive in 2012 under the auspices of Mechanical Systems Week, a mega-event encompassing the entire mechanical contracting specialty. An event you don’t want to miss!
Over the next few months, you’ll find information on Mechanical Systems Week 2012 in this newsletter, as well as in the pages of ContractingBusiness.com and online at www.contractingbusiness.com and www.mechanicalsystemsweek.com.
See you in Schaumburg!
