    GreenStar contractor W.E. Bowers wins MSCA’s 2009 Shooting Star award

    ROCKVILLE, MD. — The Mechanical Service Contractors of America announced that W.E. Bowers Inc., a full service mechanical construction, service and plumbing company, Beltsville, Md., was awarded the association’s Shooting Star award. The award is given to MSCA STAR contractors who have used the standards-based qualification to promote business success. MSCA STAR contractors complete a rigorous qualification program in order to be designated as MSCA STAR qualified.

    The company was also the first in the nation to earn MSCA GreenSTAR status, receiving the distinction last July for demonstrating commitment to environmental stewardship throughout the organization.

    GreenPlumbers, GreenMech partner for efficiency advocacy

    SACRAMENTO, CALIF. and WASHINGTON — GreenPlumbers USA and the Green Mechanical Council have announced a collaborative partnership to speed up the installation of green educational programs to the construction industry and more effectively communicate the plumbing and mechanical contracting industry's efficiency programs to utilities, businesses and consumers.

    MSCA STAR Summit focuses on marketing and branding

    ROCKVILLE, MD. — The Mechanical Service Contractors of America hosted its annual MSCA STAR Summit, focusing on marketing and branding, this April at the LEED Silver-rated Palazzo Resort Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

    At the summit, attendees participated in educational sessions, focusing on developing marketing expertise and branding in a challenging economy, and toured the heating and cooling command center for the facility, which is one of the largest LEED certified buildings in the world. According the U.S. Green Building Council, the Palazzo is four times the size of the second-largest LEED certified building.

    GBCI begins testing for new LEED credentials

    WASHINGTON — The Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) this week began testing candidates who wish to pursue the new LEED Green Associate credential or the new LEED Accredited Professional Operations and Maintenance credential.

    The LEED Green Associate credential is intended for individuals seeking to propel their professional journey into the green building industry. It represents the demonstrable knowledge and skills needed in the allied professions and non-technical fields of practice related to green design, construction and operations. It is also the first step for professionals if they later choose to become a LEED AP.

    CES launches Energy Solution Services line

    ORLANDO, FLA. — Comprehensive Energy Services Inc. recently launched its new line of Energy Solutions Services aimed at helping building owners and managers lower operating costs, particularly in the area of energy.

    With its recent acquisition of the BuildingAdvice and Vykon/Tridium building automation system technologies, CES has enhanced its detailed energy assessments of buildings as well as estimated financial impact of proposed improvements.

    EMCOR expands missing children program

    NORWALK, CONN. — EMCOR Group Inc. announced that as a result of employee support for the company’s program “Taking KidSafety to the Street and the fact that it has helped recover more than 138 missing children to-date, EMCOR is now launching another program first — an employee vehicle poster program. Company employees — the “EMCOR Street Gang” — will carry the same poster of a missing kid on their personal vehicles as the company fleet of 6,000 services vehicles carries each month. The posters rotate each month and are tailored by area of the country. The program began on May 1. (National Missing Children’s Day is May 25.)

    Central Mechanical wins Leavenworth job

    MANHATTAN, KAN. — Central Mechanical Construction, an EMCOR Group unit based here, has received a contract for the design/assist and installation of complete mechanical systems for two new projects at the Fort Leavenworth United States Army facility located in Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.
