Yudelson
challenges San Antonio groups to welcome ‘New Green Era’
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — Jerry Yudelson, a green building
consultant and author of 10 green building books, including “Green
Building Trends: Europe” and “Greening Existing Buildings,” told
the Central Texas Green Building Council and the Leadership San Antonio
that European examples hold promise for adoption in diverse
environments, when he presented his ideas about sustainable principles
and actions here, Sept. 2, 2009.
Yudelson, said there is a new way forward for U.S. cities as they
struggle with the consequences of a serious and long-lasting
recession.
“The focus should be on adopting the European approach of 'Quadruple
Zero Sustainability' — zero-net energy use, zero-net carbon emissions,
zero-net water use and zero-net waste generation — for sustainable
building to firmly take root in our culture,” said Yudelson.

Study
finds that employees in green buildings are more productive
SAN DIEGO -- Researchers at the University of San
Diego's Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate and CB Richard Ellis have
found that employees who work in green buildings are more productive
than their counterparts who work in non-green buildings. Green buildings
were defined as those that are LEED-certified at any level or those that
bear the Energy Star label.
In the study, researchers Norm Miller, Ph.D., academic director at the
Burnham-Moores Center, and David Pogue, national director of
sustainability at CBRE, surveyed 154 green buildings nationwide
containing over 2,000 tenants, 534 of which participated in the study.
The study is the largest of its kind by far; a 2003 study looked at
productivity levels in just 33 green buildings. Miller and Pogue used
two measurements of productivity: sick days and the self-reported
productivity percentage change after moving into a new building.

BY MATT MICHEL
Face it. Most contractors need help in the marketing
arena. At one extreme, do-it-yourself direct marketers make amateurish
attempts that cause homeowners to cringe. The other extreme is
characterized by the beautiful imagery of manufacturer supported
marketing that's all things to all plumbers, but too generic and vague
to generate much in the way of results for most contractors.
The solution isn't to punt. It's to improve. Direct mail can and should
be an important marketing tool for your business. Here are 14 tips to
give your direct mail greater punch.
