HVAC professionals attended the 62nd 2010 International
Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition here in late January
to learn about the latest sustainable products and technologies
showcased by 1,822 exhibiting companies, making this show the best
attended AHR Expo in the Southeast U.S.
There were loads of products of interest to plumbing and mechanical
contractors.

card marketing works

One of the simplest and lowest cost forms of marketing
can be surprisingly effective. It’s the business card. It’s amazing
how many companies underutilize business cards. Their cards are plain,
containing little more than basic contact information, the same
information that’s available from an online Yellow Pages. A decade
into the 21st century, they’re using 20th century business cards.

EPA
releases final WaterSense specification for showerheads
WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency
released a final specification for showerheads on Thursday, March 4,
2010. Now manufacturers that produce showerheads meeting EPA’s
efficiency and performance criteria can apply to have their products
certified to earn the WaterSense label. Manufacturers must have a
partnership agreement with EPA in place before submitting showerheads
for testing.

Gov.
Rendell Says Fed Rebates Will Make Efficient Heating Equipment
Affordable
HARRISBURG, PA. -- Starting in April, funding from the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will make it possible for tens of
thousands of Pennsylvanians to reduce their energy consumption and save
money through a new rebate program for home heating equipment, Governor
Edward G. Rendell said in early March.
The $11 million program will provide rebates of between $100 and $500 on
the purchase of new, Energy Star-rated non-electric residential hot
water heaters, furnaces and boilers. The higher the equipment's
efficiency rating, the larger the rebate will be.

Three
Union Pipefitters Killed in Power Plant Explosion
MIDDLETON, CONN. - Six Connecticut construction workers,
including three pipefitter affiliates of United Association Plumbers &
Pipefitters Local 777, were killed on Feb. 7 by a massive explosion that
occurred while they were purging a natural gas piping system at a power
plant construction site in Middletown, about 15 miles south of Hartford.
Raymond Dobratz, 58, Peter Chepulis, 48, and Ronald J. Crabb, 42, were
all active members of Local 777 based out of Meriden, Ct.
