    Industry pitches in for Extreme Home Makeover of a Houston family’s home

    HOUSTON — A real testament to our industry was shown in late July and early August. On behalf of the Viega Corp., CONTRACTOR Magazine Publisher Dan Ashenden was invited down to Houston to participate in the one-week “Extreme Makeover – Home Edition” build of a home in Houston’s impoverished 3rd Ward.

    Needless to say, conditions in Houston in July can be summed up in two words — hot and sticky! It is always amazing, though, to see how companies, groups and individual people come together for a worthy cause, no matter the conditions.

    Colleges are ‘greening’ their campuses

    It’s that time of year: college students know their summer is about over and are planning to return to school in a few weeks. It’s especially exciting for college freshman. Hopefully they are going to their college of choice. As I remember, there’s a lot to consider when deciding what college is the best fit: academic offerings, athletics, social environment, tuition, living expenses, etc. And now you can add sustainability to the list.

    According to Robert Franek, Princeton Review senior vice president/publisher, there is a rising interest among students in attending green colleges.

    Randall Mechanical finishes $8M green medical job

    ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLA. — Randall Mechanical Inc., a leading Florida green mechanical contractor, has completed $8 million of specialty plumbing and HVAC work at the new $63.4 million University of Central Florida College of Medicine located at Lake Nona Medical City in Orlando, Fla.

    The four-story, 175,000-sq.ft. UCF project with state-of-the-art mechanical and plumbing systems has been submitted for LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, said Jeffrey S. Condello, company founder and president/CEO.

    Haberberger receives two awards from MCA of Eastern Missouri

    ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Mechanical contracting company Haberberger, Inc. was recently recognized by the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Missouri (MCA) for its outstanding HVAC mechanical installation work on two projects for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Mo., and Washington University’s Genome Sequencing Data Center. Haberberger has been honored with the mechanical installation award 21 times for a variety of projects over the past several years.

    Linc Mechanical Produces $5 million for Pa. School District Building Improvements

    PITTSBURGH, PA. – Pittsburgh-based Linc Mechanical, LLC and Energy Technologies, Inc. of Drums, Pa., both members of the Linc Service Network, have partnered to provide a program centered around an infrastructure funding strategy for the facility needs at the Northwest Area School District. The district is located in the northeast region of Pennsylvania with a student population of approximately 1,400. Linc Mechanical and Energy Technologies provided funding solutions, which did not require an increase in local taxes, for the Northwest Area School Districts’ high school and two elementary schools’ comfort systems that were in immediate need of replacement.
