Smart
ways to avoid a common cause of water damage
BY DAVE YATES
Add a little TLC (Time for a Leak Check) to plumbing
service contracts or simply as a value-added service your company
provides. These days, anything that helps you stand out among the crowd
will enhance your company's image and the bottom line. In this case,
we're dealing with the most common of all plumbing leaks: one that is
the most easily avoided, yet most often overlooked and ignored —
washing machine hoses.
Insurance giant State Farm reports that washing machine hoses should be
replaced every three years to five years! That's not very likely to
happen and the laundry room is often remote and only visited briefly to
toss in or remove a load of laundry — out of sight equals out of mind.
That is, until disaster strikes.

Greenbuild,
GreenTown emphasize jobs and the economy
BY CANDACE ROULO
This fall Chicago is host to two green building
conferences, Greenbuild and GreenTown. Both events are emphasizing green
jobs and a green economy. I always look forward to attending GreenTown
since there are always new technologies and products to learn about.
Plus, they offer a wide variety of tracks to participate in, from
alternative energy and design building to green neighborhoods and green
infrastructure and jobs. And this year will be my first Greenbuild,
which I am excited to attend. I’ve been hearing about it for years,
and now I will experience it first hand.
