Simple ideas to jump start your marketing

    BY MATT MICHEL
Could your marketing use a boost? Here's a few quick ideas to jump start your marketing.

Rent your customers' yards: Following every service call, but before collecting payment, ask the customer if you can rent his yard for a month by placing a company yard sign near the curb in exchange for a $10 discount. Corrugated plastic yard signs can be purchased for as little as $3 per sign. Spiff the plumber $5 and for a total investment of $18, you've got a mini-billboard for a month. Moreover, you're building your brand awareness within the neighborhood as the neighborhood plumber.

    DOE withdraws interpretive showerhead rule

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Energy has withdrawn as unwarranted the draft interpretative rule setting out the Department's views on the definition of a "showerhead" for purposes of the water conservation standard enacted by Congress in 1992.

    BY ROBERT P. MADER
In my February 2011 editorial in CONTRACTOR magazine, I recapped some of the anti-green sentiment that was dredged up by a November 2010 letter to the editor by contractor Michael Gray. A number of correspondents said that green was bunk. I acknowledged that and then told my readers that I disagree with them.

When I first started receiving letters along the line of “Michael Gray for President,” I was stunned. How could I be so wrong? Then I thought about for a while and realized that if I were wrong, so were tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of people devoted to green and sustainable construction and service.

    Haberberger awarded Ameren Project

ST. LOUIS, MO. -- Mechanical contracting firm Haberberger, Inc., was recently awarded the mechanical package for the new Ameren Landfill Gas to Energy (LFGTE) project, which will be constructed at the Fred Weber landfill in Creve Coeur, Mo. The landfill generates methane gas, which, once the project is completed, will be harvested and processed for use in three gas turbine generators producing 15 megawatts of electrical power, or enough for approximately 10,000 homes.
