The customer is always right even when he’s wrong

    BY AL SCHWARTZ
ABC Plumbing & Heating gets a service call about a commode that keeps on running. The dispatcher assigns the call to “Ramblin’ Rick,” one of his best service plumbers. Rick rolls on the call and arrives at the appointed time to the “Mr. & Mrs. Customer” residence. So far, so good.

Rick’s truck looks like it’s been the lead vehicle in a convoy to Baghdad. The company logo is visible, but the truck itself is dirty, battered and dented with what looks like a ream of multi-colored paper spread across the dash and it has a cracked windshield. Then there is Rick. He knocks on the door and Mrs. Customer opens it to find herself face-to-face with what looks like a homeless man sporting torn jeans, tennis shoes, an AC/DC T-shirt, full beard, a gap-toothed grin and a “Death before Disco” tattoo clearly visible on his arm.

BOULDER, CO -- As new home sales in the United States declined and the home remodeling market slowed in recent years, many residential product and service categories have experienced a significant drop in business. However, out of the recession is emerging a positive outlook for growth in energy efficient products and services for homes, according to a new report from Pike Research. This sector, which comprises energy efficient home improvements, high-efficiency appliances, and home energy auditing services, holds the potential to generate significant new revenue opportunities as well as creating a large number of new green collar jobs.

Atlanta Motorsports Park is first ‘green’ racetrack

DAWSONVILLE, GA. — The Atlanta Motorsports Park is well on its way to become the first sustainable racetrack in the world.

Jeremy Porter, CEO of Atlanta Motorsports, said when the track opens in the third quarter of 2010, his track will be the only sustainable commercial industrial development in America as well as the only green motorsports park in the world.

“We’re trying to set the standard,” said Porter. “If a racetrack, which is not considered to be a very green business, can be green, what’s everyone else’s excuse in America? It’s time for a change.”
