Social Media for Contractors: How to start a blog for your contracting business

If you have not started a blog for your company (and those who already have can still be considered early adopters), here is some food for thought.

A business blog can be a distinct website or a feature on an existing company website. It takes discipline, time and thought. If the blog is part of your website (as opposed to using a separate domain for it or using a hosted server), visitors don't have to leave your company website to view it and vice versa. Furthermore, it is a quick way to freshen up your website, especially if the rest of it is more or less static. Adding new blogs frequently not only encourages frequent visits, but also keeps you higher up in SEO.

WORCESTER, MASS. — William J. “Mac” Lynch will take over as president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America at the group’s convention in Orlando, Fla., the third week in March. Lynch is president of the William F. Lynch Co. Inc., one of the most prominent, successful, and financially sound contractors in eastern Massachusetts. With more than 90 years of experience in the mechanical contracting field, the firm’s Worcester, Mass.-based facilities have grown to include its main office building, a pipe fabrication shop, computerized sheet metal fabrication building, and a storage facility.

Lynch became president-elect of MCAA last year at the association’s convention in Hawaii. Appointed to the Board of Directors in 2003, Lynch is active in the association on both the national and local levels.

DeBra-Kuempel renovates mechanical systems in GE's Cincinnati product development lab

NORWALK, CONN. -- EMCOR Group Inc. announced that its DeBra-Kuempel Inc. subsidiary has been awarded the mechanical systems renovation for a product development laboratory for General Electric in Cincinnati, Ohio.

DeBra-Kuempel will be responsible for the installation of all new mechanical systems in the laboratory including replacement of chillers, boilers, heat exchangers, air handling units and controls, as well as the installation of lab exhaust and high purity piping for lab process gases.

Plumbing contractor forum provides feedback at SSPMA meeting

NORTHBROOK, IL– The Sump and Sewage Pump Manufacturers Association (SSPMA) held its Spring Meeting in late February in Indianapolis, IN. All pump company members were represented at the well-attended meeting.

The program featured four plumbing contractor representatives who are members of the Indiana Plumbing Heating Cooling Contractors Association. SSPMA members submitted their questions in advance, providing for a lively discussion.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signs Plumbing Industry Week proclamation

ATLANTA -- Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed a proclamation marking March 11 – 17, 2012 as Plumbing Industry Week in Georgia. The aim of the proclamation is intended to raise awareness among Georgia residents of the contributions that professional plumbing contractors make to the health, safety and comfort of society. The plumbing industry has a significant impact on our economy as the majority of plumbing contractors are small business owners who help to create much needed jobs.
