The final numbers
Harvest of the FIRST test plots is complete, and Corn & Soybean Digest magazine, with sponsorship from Bayer CropScience, is bringing you the regional summaries of the final data from the field. Summaries by region are listed below with the site yield averages for that region. To view the full reports with the listing of each hybrid visit www.firstseedtests.com. Oil and protein data has recently been added to the individual soybean reports. This week the silage and soybean regional performance summaries are provided. In honor of Thanksgiving, we will take next week off. Then, two final Harvest Reports will be sent via e-mail on Dec. 5 and 12 with highlights of the regional corn performance summaries. New video clips will also be added in early December, and we will let you know about those. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

To find out more about how the harvest went, listen to the audio reports posted on the Web site. Audio interviews with the FIRST farm managers were updated weekly on the Web site during the last seven weeks of harvest. Direct links are listed for the FIRST audio interviews, as well as the FIRST videos, which explain more about the FIRST Seed Testing program. Click here for VIDEO or here for AUDIO.

F.I.R.S.T. CORN PROGRESS REPORT
USDA reports corn harvest remains behind schedule
While the FIRST corn test plots have been harvested, this week’s USDA Crop Progress report shows the U.S. corn harvest is only 78% complete, compared with 97% complete at the same time last year and a five-year average of 94% complete for this week. States in the northern Corn Belt region are furthest behind, with corn harvest 70% complete in Iowa, 67% in Nebraska and 33% and 59% complete in North and South Dakota, respectively. Soybean harvest, at 95% complete, is slightly ahead of last year and on-par with the five-year average. For individual corn yield reports with the listing of each hybrid visit www.firstseedtests.com.

With the Weed Science Society of America now reporting nine weeds confirmed resistant to glyphosate in the United States, soybean growers cannot afford to continue down the same weed-control path. In answer to this issue, Bayer CropScience has introduced new LibertyLink® soybeans and Ignite® herbicide, the only nonselective alternative to the Roundup Ready® system.

The LibertyLink trait is available for 2009 in high-yielding soybean varieties ranging in maturity from 0.5 to 4.9 from more than 80 seed companies. Plus, the LibertyLink varieties have no yield drag or lag.

For more information on this good news, click here: LibertyLink soybeans.

* Any product produced from LibertyLink soybeans crop or seed may only be used, exported to, processed or sold in countries where appropriate regulatory approvals have been granted.

Soybean harvest is finishing up in southern Indiana, and F.I.R.S.T. harvest reports are showing the top yielding varieties.

With impressive yields, two varieties placed near the top with yields of 55.3 bu./acre and 54.7 bu./acre; these two varieties were protected from the start with Trilex® and Allegiance® seed-applied fungicides and Gaucho® seed-applied insecticide from Bayer CropScience. These three products are part of the most advanced seed-applied soybean treatment, the Trilex 6000 Soybean System.

It pays to surround your seed with six layers of superior protection. The Trilex 6000 Soybean System delivered an increase of up to 4 to 6 extra bushels per acre in field trials.

To find out more about starting off your soybean seed with one complete system, visit BayerCropScienceUS.com, or talk to your seed supplier or Bayer CropScience representative today.
