Corn harvest reaches 92% complete
In the Crop Progress report released by the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) on Dec. 13, 2009, 92% of the corn crop had been harvested across the 18 largest corn-producing states. North and South Dakota, which still had the most corn to harvest, reached 60% and 82% of their state's corn crop harvested, respectively.

The Final Report
While wet weather was the dominant story for the 2009 harvest season, yields were still very good and even hit record levels for many farmers. Final highlights of regional corn and soybean yields by state are included in this final issue of the F.I.R.S.T. F.I.R.S.T. was started in 1997, and today the program has expanded to include corn and soybean testing sites planted in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and the DelMarva region in Delaware and Maryland.

Michigan and Wisconsin
Wisconsin South – Site average was 203.1 bu./acre on the early season test and 190.9 bu./acre on the late-season test.

Michigan South – Site average was 176.8 bu./acre on the all-season test.

Michigan Thumb – Site average was 198.6 bu./acre on the all-season test.


Minnesota
Minnesota Southeast – Site average was 201.3 bu./acre on the early season test and 198 bu./acre on the late-season test.

Minnesota Southwest – Site average was 202.8 bu./acre on the early season test and 197.8 bu./acre on the full-season test.

Minnesota West Central– Site average was 224.9 bu./acre on the early season test and 217.1 bu./acre on the full-season test.



Nebraska and North Central Tri-States
North Central Tri-States – Site average was 208.8 bu./acre on the early season test and 215.6 bu./acre on the late-season test.

Nebraska Northeast – Site average was 220.7 bu./acre on the early season test and 217.5 bu./acre on the late-season test.


South Dakota and Red River Valley
South Dakota Northeast – Site average was 203.1 bu./acre on the early season test and 190.9 bu./acre on the late-season test.

South Dakota Southeast– Site average was 176.8 bu./acre on the early season test and 169.8 bu./acre on the full-season test.

Red River Valley– Site average was 156 bu./acre on the all-season test.
